To properly collect and store specimens, please follow these instructions:
- Fasting is not required.
- Blood samples may be collected in:
- Serum or plasma gel separation tubes
- EDTA or heparin plasma tubes
- All serum tubes
- 0.5 mL plasma sample volume recommended
- All blood samples should be stored refrigerated (2-8°C)
- All refrigerated samples must be analyzed within 7 days of collection
- Prepare samples using standard separation procedures
- Recommend to centrifuge and separate samples within four hours of venipuncture as per good laboratory practices
- Unprocessed Blood Samples
- Store or transport on cold packs (2–8°) and process within 48 hours of collection
- Processed Samples
- May be stored up to 7 days at 2-8°C
- Transport overnight on cold packs (2-8°C) or frozen on dry ice
- May be frozen in aliquot tubes at or below -20°C for up to three months prior to analysis
- May be frozen and thawed up to six times without affecting the Lp-PLA2 quantitation
